Chris McCleave

Chris is best known for his work in the electricity and venture capital industries where he has fostered innovation and influenced strategy, public policy, and partnerships. Chris has a deep understanding of the entire electricity system that spans generation (of all types), transmission, distribution, and retail.
Through his corporate senior leadership roles and entrepreneurial endeavors, Chris has built a unique acumen for taking complex problems and navigating to successful solutions. His purpose-driven strategic perspective has unlocked successful outcomes for some of the most complex electricity challenges and opportunities in Canada over the past 15 years. Many of Chris’ most successful projects have been where he is able to successfully navigate the intersection between business, policy and politics.
Some examples include: navigating major environmental/emissions reductions in the generation space; working to find advanced solutions to modernize the grid to support electrification; being part of a $1.8B CAD acquisition in 2020; and, raising over $200M in innovation grants for electricity innovation projects across the sector.
Earlier in Chris’ career he worked as a management consultant where he gained valuable knowledge and experience developing and implementing governance models and formal structures for Boards in all profit sectors. This foundation and understanding will support a strong Board governance model. This experience also shaped Chris’ understanding of what it takes to be a collaborative and thoughtful and accountable Board member and teammate.
Chris holds a BA from Western University and an Executive MBA from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University. In 2023, Chris was awarded the Ian Anderson Award from the Calgary Chamber. The recipient of the award is chosen for their depth of understanding of the policy issues facing the Alberta business community, their commitment to furthering the Chamber’s voice as advocates, and for the leadership shown to committee members in navigating the intersection of business, policy and politics.
Outside of work Chris has a passion for travel, cooking, sports, and spending time with his family.
